My belief is that there are many good training programs
across the Tri-State area that offer much in the line of strength and/or speed
training. What makes my Linebacker
School special is that it is sport and position specific. Through my years of training and
playing, I have learned that the only way to become a great linebacker is to:
PRACTICE BEING A LINEBACKER.
While
there are benefits to a good 40yd dash time and having a good bench press, it
is the specific knowledge and skill of playing the linebacker position that
will determine success on the field...Period. I am selecting
the specific weight room exercises I feel are the most important to being a
powerful, explosive linebacker, as well as keeping your body strong to
withstand the wear and tear of playing the position and minimize injury
risk. I am combining this with the
most important aspect of the Linebacker School: the position specific on-the-field
work. Having learned countless
drills over my career, I have taken the most essential ones and formulated a
program to teach to young athletes.
The core of these drills is simple:
- how to take on and defeat blocks
- how to break on the football and attack the line of scrimmage with explosiveness
- how to properly tackle.
- I want my linebackers moving with the speed and quickness of defensive backs, while still being able bring down ball carriers with force.
We will also use NFL film of myself, as well as other
linebackers, to provide a visual example of the proper way to play the
linebacker position. I will also
at certain times, do on-site film work of the young athletes as they complete
their drill work. I know from
experience that watching yourself on film is the absolute best way to see
mistakes you may be making. Then
over time we can correct these footwork and hand-placement mistakes and make the
athlete more fundamentally sound.
